Dr. Danielle Martin I @docdanielle

Executive Vice-President and Chief Medical Executive

Danielle Martin is the Executive Vice-President and Chief Medical Executive of Women’s College Hospital, where she is also a practicing family physician. Danielle is leading the hospital's strategy to establish Women's Virtual, Canada's first virtual hospital, aimed at improving care and reducing health system costs in ways that can be scaled up across our healthcare system.

Danielle’s policy, clinical and academic expertise, combined with her commitment to health equity, have made her a highly regarded health system leader. She regularly provides expertise and formal advice to lawmakers both nationally and abroad.

Danielle holds a Masters of Public Policy from the School of Public Policy and Governance at the University of Toronto. She is an active scholar and an internationally recognized researcher on health system issues.

As a well-recognized media spokesperson, Danielle frequently provides commentary on health issues through her work as a health contributor at the CBC. Her national bestselling book Better Now: 6 Big Ideas to Improve the Health of all Canadians, was released in 2017.

In conjunction with her work at WCH, Danielle is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. The recipient of many awards and accolades, in 2019 she became the youngest physician ever to receive the F.N.G Starr Award, the highest honour available to Canadian Medical Association members.


Sacha Bhatia

Director, WCH Institute for Health System Solutions & Virtual Care

Dr. R. Sacha Bhatia is the FM Hill Chair in Health Systems Solutions and the Founding Director of the Institute for Health System Solutions and Virtual Care (WIHV) at Women’s College Hospital. He is the Division Head of Cardiology at Women’s College Hospital and is also a staff cardiologist and UHN and WCH. He is the national evaluation lead of the Choosing Wisely Canada campaign, a scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, and an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. He has been published in international peer reviewed journals like the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA Internal Medicine. He has been a commentator on Bloomberg News, CTV News and the CBC, and has been asked to give over 80 presentations internationally, nationally and regionally since 2013.

He is a recipient of the American College of Cardiology’s Young Investigator Award, the American Society of Echocardiography’s Arthur E. Weyman Young Investigator Award, and most recently the Goldie Award for Quality and Innovation at the University of Toronto. He sits on the boards of the Heart and Stroke Foundation and DREAM Global REIT, a publicly traded company listed on the TSX.

Previously he worked as a clinical and research fellow in cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University. Dr. Bhatia received his medical degree and MBA at McGill University and his internal medicine and cardiology training in Toronto.

WIHV Advisory Board

WIHV benefits from the expertise of its Advisory Board, chaired by Dr. Chaviva Hosek and made up of top health system leaders and thinkers from across Ontario. They convene quarterly to provide advice to WIHV on emerging health sector issues and help to link critical partners to the team, ensuring that the work we do remains applicable across the sector.

Scientific and research experts on the Board also help WIHV to recruit world-class researchers who will address the most relevant and pressing policy-relevant ambulatory care issues.
